Sun Oven

What kind of pot should be used with a solar oven? The best choice is a thin black pot with a clear glass lid. The black sides and bottom absorb the sun's heat and the clear lid will allow the heat to pass through directly to the food. Polished reflective pots perform poorly and pots without a lid will allow water vapor from the cooking food to fog the oven glass.

Glass jars make good cookng containers if darkened with paint. Remember to vent the lid to prevent steam buildup and a burst jar!

Raising the pot off the bottom of the oven will improve air circulation and reduce cooking time. A wire mesh support or glass bowl can be used under the pot.
